The next post I write will be titled "Self loathing: Why I hate my blog". Rereading my previous post reiterates that feeling.

The problem is, I never spend more than ten minutes on any given post. That gives a final product full of typos, poor grammar usage, and half baked thoughts. If I didn't know me and I read my previous post, I would think I was pretty anti gay. That is not the case in the least. My only problem with Dumbledore's outing is the impact it will have on the books for future readers, mainly due to ignorant twits.

I read this article and can see it from a different perspective, how people should apply the new discovery. "Oh, he's gay? I wouldn't have known. It really has no impact on the person he is." I am just sad that the percentage of people who feel that way I fear will be low. The percentage of people who declare him a pedophile and question his relationship with Harry will be ridiculously high.

Alright, now that that's cleared up (I hope) I need to ask for some feedback. I know that not many people read this, but my stat counter says that about twenty a day actually glance at it, and while I don't usually mind the lack of commenters, I could really use some feedback here. Jordan is old enough now to be involved in the youth at church, which we were both pretty excited about, until I found out that their new curriculum is affiliated with this website. If you have a minute to check it out, please look at this page
as well.

How would you feel about a card promoting this website being handing to your child in a pamphlet? How would feel about curriculum associated with this site being taught to your child? Really, I would love to hear some viewpoints.

My ten minutes are up, let's see what mess has been created at the expense if this post :)

I dont see anything wrong with the site. Did you take the time to read it? In describing the different religions, there is a run down of what that religion believes and how christians can reach out to these people and relate, but most importantly in almost every one of the "things to remember" paragraph which explains how Christians can deal with questions, differences and approaching someone who's is not a Christian, the web site states that Christians should "build a relationship" with that person and get to know them. Whats wrong with that? isn't that what Christ taught? It goes on to proclaim in some instances that we should set an example by our own lives. Please tell me what you find so terrible about this site?

- Thank you -

I seriously am glad you asked: What DO I find so horrible about this site? Actually, there are several things.
1. We attend a Presbyterian church. One of the things it generalizes about "Ryan the Religious" is his "belief in certain creeds and statements of faith." Presbyterians fall under this category. Also, the founder of this site focuses much attention to the belief of a specific physical hell, which also goes against Presbyterian beliefs.

2. Did you know that the word "homosexual" didn't exist until 1869? And that there are only 4 places in the Bible where it mentions anything about homosexual behavior? And that one of those passages (Lev.) says that it is an abomination, right up there with eating pork? Never does it address homosexuality as a committed, loving, relationship.

3. Such generalized statements such as "Jenna the Jew doesn't like to be grouped with others from her religion..." Do I need to explain how that is offensive? Prejudice? In most cases, False?

4.It takes a fairly strong stance against "tolerance" of other beliefs. Hmmm, who do I know in history who was tolerant of others? Who surrounded Himself by outcasts as opposed to the self proclaimed righteous? What was His Name?

What I want my young, impressionable daughter to learn in the next few years is that God loves her. Period. And that God equally loves every single individual on this planet. That what He expects for her is to love everyone, including herself, as a creation of Him. This site focuses on how to befriend others for the sole purpose of converting them to a very narrow view of Christianity. Did you know the guy that founded this site also wrote "Letters from Hell", a letter a teenager writes while in hell to his Christian friend, blaming him for not saving him?
I believe that witnessing to people consists of making daily choices that glorify God, especially in the way that we treat other people.

Hope that sums it up.

Sincerely, Mom to many

It's taken me a while to post a comment because I really wanted to have some time to read over the site and I too didn't really like it. I know now a days churches are doing a lot of things to become hip and cool and attract kids - which is all really great because ultimately kids need God. Plain and simple and if churches have to win kids over with this cool stuff then so be it, as long as it results in these kids accepting God into their hearts and lives and living for Him. Isn't that the ultimate goal?

However, with that being said, I thought the site was a weird to say the least. It kinda creeped me out and I didn't appreciate the language or the name. Seriously, "Jenna the Jew" how does that promote loving your neighbor and ministering to your friends and knowing that God loves that person as much as He loves you. I hate the idea that God would have such a label for every person out there. As an adult I realize we are labeled whether we like it or not, but my kids are just kids. They don't need to deal with labels yet. It's too soon. It's too hard. Life is hard and they need to be kids for as long as possible. Know what I mean?

I too believe that witnessing to others isn't just about telling them about God. It's about how I live my life and how I treat other people, how I treat my husband, how I react to my kids and how I handle situtations. It's what other people see in me that is going to make them curious about God and my relationship with Him.

WOW - please don't attack my blog or me for all this - seriously good discussion stuff here and a great topic. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and we ought to be able to discuss them like this. It's so good for all of us - great post! Hope there is more to come as you delve further into this curriculum.

By the way - we've almost finished our house:) I think I'll have to do one more post with the final pictures so everyone can see how the finished product turned out:)

Really, great post, great response -

I looked at both sites. Although I find them both alittle "out there" I think they are fine. Promoting religion to younger generations is much different compared to back in the day. I remember my youth group and my mom at times was questionable. Good luck!
